Dave Newberry - Why Becoming an Entrepreneur Is a Great Choice Versus Having a Job

 Should You Start a Business?

Of course, just because you can start a business does not mean you should start a business. There are two types of business owners:

The small business owner that is only interested in having one or two employees or work by themselves, and the entrepreneur who sees a bigger picture and is bent on creating a business that will employee a lot of people and provide wealth beyond all dreams

Entrepreneurs have a leadership mindset. Entrepreneurs not only start a business, but they also are responsible for guiding their business and employees after launch. Entrepreneurs should be prepared to serve as mentors to their employees as the business grows.

Entrepreneurs surround themselves with other mentors and other positive influencers. You get huge payback when you surround yourself with mentors who already know how to start a business. Every successful long term business owner has a mentor. Examples are Warren Buffet, Donald Trump, Robert Kiyosaki, and Steve Jobs.

Having a mentor is the same as having a seeing eye dog if you are blind. They guide you through the process and provide another perspective based on years of experience.

How to Start a Business

Deciding you are in the right mindset to become an entrepreneur is half the battle. Next, you will need to learn how to start a business. Learning how to start a business successfully requires lots of research. Study the stories of successful and failed business to learn from their experiences. Reach out to other entrepreneurs and ask them about their experiences. There are a lot of excellent articles in CNN Money - Small Business.

There are two books that are mandatory to read if you are going to grow your business: "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki and, "Midas Touch" by Kiyosaki and Donald Trump. The books define the mindset, systems, and leadership required by entrepreneurs.

Find like minded people by looking for gatherings of entrepreneurs and mentors. You will find them at conferences, on webinars, tweetups, at meetups and other events. Meetup.com is a great website for finding other entrepreneurs like yourself. You may even be able to find meetings and seminars on how to start a business. Another excellent place to find other entrepreneurs is on LinkedIn.com. Search for entrepreneurs groups and join.

Remember, successful entrepreneurs need to be in the correct mindset to start a business and must be prepared to stay in that entrepreneurial mindset as long as the company exists. There is much more to starting a business than simply knowing how to start a business, but the rewards are much greater than your current nine to five gig. Find a group, a mentor and take action. Taking action inspires success.
